The Morning Show Review: Pretty Good

When Apple TV+ launched last year, it was to much fanfare and hype. Partly due to the huge amounts of marketing, but also the original content that was built up to be amazing and ‘from some of the best minds’ and it really shows in The Morning Show. It has a very beliveable plot that revolves around, you guessed it, a morning news show. It is supposedly the biggest one in America and it is hosted by the on-screen couple Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston).

But disgrace hits, when Kessler is investigated and subsequently fired for sexually assaulting members of the production team. The story then continues, and by sheer luck Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) ends up as co-host next to Levy.

The show goes to extraodinary lengths to make the entire plot seem believeable and it succeeds, at times. Some storylines don’t seem that believeable, like the addiction towards the end, but all in all it does a good job to keep the viewer guessing and in suspense. The show is also very good at toying with the emotions of the viewer, being able to bring it from heart-warming and fuzzy to shocking and sad, all in the space of a few minutes.

My biggest problem with the show, was the speed. It took until a flashback a few episodes in to see what Mitch Kessler actually did. This allows the viewer to belive that he could be innocent, as up until this point all we see is him angry, then ‘begging’ to the world for forgiveness. But all in all, it’s a very good show, well written and meaningful currently.

I’d give The Morning Show:

Rating: 4 out of 5.
